ELIGIBILITY AND APPLICATION GUIDELINES

Who May Be Eligible

To be eligible for assistance, the recipient must be an active volunteer serving a bona fide volunteer or combination paid/volunteer fire department serving in one of the following roles:

· Firefighter;

· EMS provider;

· 911 operator or dispatcher; or

· An immediate family member, (spouse or child), of an eligible volunteer.

How to Request Assistance

A request for assistance must be submitted by an officer of the associated fire department acting as the recipient’s sponsor. Eligible sponsoring officers may include a chief, assistant chief, deputy chief, district chief, captain, or lieutenant.

Eligible Events include but are not limited to

· Major medical event;

· Death; or

· Loss of property due to fire or natural disaster.

Ineligible Events include but are not limited to

· Loss of employment or wages, (unless the direct result of an eligible event);

· Property repossession due to nonpayment;

· Minor accidents or injuries; or

· Similar events that do not meet the eligibility criteria.

Eligibility of events will be determined at the sole discretion of the Texas Volunteer Firefighters’ Relief Fund Board of Directors.

Important Limitations

The Texas Volunteer Firefighters’ Relief Fund does not distribute cash under any circumstances and does not cover medical bills.
